Akiko Hayashi^[4]

Co-founder of Qualia-Glassworks, Akiko Hayashi is an artisanal glass maker that relishes every step of the process, with a hands on approach from design to manipulating the glass through to the finish. Her work can be laborious.

Despite working with a very hot fire in her atelier, she works silently and persistently at peace with her surroundings. In her words she creates "something just good and right" a plate that you want to keep by your side. Functional and beautiful, each piece has a fine, clean outline that elevates any meal. We are privileged to be selling a small number of Akiko glassworks for the table. 

デザインから製造までの全作業を一人で手掛ける林亜希子は、日々黙々と、淡々とガラスと向き合う情熱にあふれた人。女性らしい繊細さを持ち、十分に用途を考えられた作品が並ぶ。優れた機能性も持つ中にも美しさがしっかりと備わり、彼女の言葉を借りるとしたら「ちょうどいい感じ」を目指して作られている。そうして毎日傍に寄り添っていたくなる器が生み出されるのだ。

ガラスという古代から存在する素材を使い作品の中に自分のアイデンティティーを確立するということは、歴史が長いからこそ難題であるだろう。しかし彼女はそれを実現させてしまう。食を彩るにふさわしい心地の良い食器を作り出し、今までもあってほしかった「ちょうどいい」器の形に仕上げる。それらは静かな佇まいをしていて主張しすぎない。

そんな彼女らしい雰囲気が醸し出される作品に飽きがくることはない。その先には暖かい暮らしが見えてくる。
