Titled ‘STONE AGE’ by Emma Wallbanks
This unique collection incorporates all natural compositions from predominantly antique and vintage fabrics, which include French monogrammed linen, deconstructed silk kimono fabric, reworked handknits and vintage cotton. All pieces have been hand dyed. Most pieces incorporate handcrafted buttons made in Emma’s studio, materials include NZ fossil whale bone, fossil octopus, wooly mammoth ivory, shungite and fossil dinosaur bone. The oldest fossil used can be traced back 400 million years. It is through the sentiment of the materials that brings a life force to the garments, asking us to consider our bodily relationship to time and the earth. The finite nature of our bodies is met with the infinite material of a changed planet, bringing about notions of memory, loss and adaptability. Each piece is one off, and one size.
