Electric kiln fired paper-clay. Vessel made using Mishima Japanese technique where black slip is inlayed in wet clay - the X shape is a reference to the Tukutuku pattern present in most Māori meeting houses which in many cases has meaning but for this piece is purely decorative. The surface is a wax resist with sgraffito technique.
