Growing up as a sensitive child, I sought to control my surroundings to create a sense of security. In the studio, however, I let my heightened intuition and awareness guide my process that is shaped by both personal and academic influences.
My Bachelor of Spatial Design sparked a deep appreciation for material processes, and I now construct each vessel from molded stoneware slabs—a technique that echoes the fiberglass molds my dad once used to build boats, connecting me to a family tradition of making and grounding my approach to form and structure.
I am especially drawn to the Japanese technique of Nerikomi, which involves layering and blending coloured clays to form intricate patterns. This process serves as a foundation for exploring transcendental ideas, helping me investigate the balance between control and spontaneity. Through this interplay, each vessel emerges with its own distinct energy signature.
All pieces are fired in an electric kiln and then sanded and buffed to a smooth soft finish.
