Ella’s work looks at the connection between environment and textiles. In awe of the diversity and complexity of Japan’s traditional textiles, she moves away from form as a focus and instead lets the fabric do the heavy lifting. Each garment responds to a landscape.
Natural dyes create a substantial link, while resist and deconstruction techniques explore ideas associated with time and memory. A process revealing the experience of making for a place known intimately, versus a place only glimpsed.
