Jane Burn is a ceramic artist living and working on Waiheke Island.
She was introduced to ceramics while resident in a one year Mombusho Scholarship at Miyadai University, Kyushu, Japan.
Utilizing local resources is integral to her creative process, sourcing local Waiheke clay for her works.
Jane’s hand built vessels often show the imperfections of the clay, blistered and encrusted surfaces that evoke the island where she lives.
Each vessel imbued with the very essence of the land.
The process of sourcing clay and preparing it to work with is slow, her vessels take time to build, each crafted form unique.
The relationship between the material and the maker is Jane’s focus.
