Kenichi Sasakawa[8]
Born in Kanagawa, and graduating with an MFA at Tama Art University in Ceramic, Glass & Metal works in 2006 he then worked as a tutor at the same university for several years, and in 2020 moved to Kyoto to settle down. It’s there that he set up his atelier where he now creates work at his own pace.
Glass works are melted in high a temperature flame which usually creates a smooth texture but he uses recycled glass, mixed with some metals or other materials, and as a result a new texture and shimmery grey tone glass is created.
Sasakawa is an artist with a wide range of works, from practical glass ware to some amazing artworks. His unique and intentionally torn glass vases are skilful and original, as you will see in this show. Super thin lines oppose the slightly dimmed grey tones of his works combine to create an interesting aesthetic that add a casual sophistication to any spaces.
The thoughts of industrial design and architecture coexist within a single piece of glass with an artistry similar to the potter kneading clay in pursuit of a unique form.
