Scott Brough is a ceramic artist based in Hawke's Bay. Working with a small palette of materials and a love for the ancient pottery of Asia and Europe, Scott creates individual pieces for people to live with and use regularly.

'I am always seeking the perfect balance between the coarseness of the raw materials and the delicacy of the finished work.'

Brough uses simple repeat patterns in his works which he inlays with white slip, a process that takes a while to complete.

The vase was made on his kick wheel with New Zealand clay, it has brushed white slip and clear ash glaze then wood-fired in Waiohiki Creative Arts Village's Kiln for 3 days. The atmosphere from the firing has interacted with the glaze giving a varied finish. Small scar from firing highlighted with lacquer and brass powder, modernised Kintsugi technique.
