Walk In The Park^[24]

Woo-Lam (Sam) Choi is the designer artist and maker behind Walk in the Park, a New Zealand based wood-working studio with a specific focus on wood-turning to produce both commercial and art objects.

Sam, who has a furniture design background in South Korea, began learning wood-turning techniques in 2016 and is continuing his practice-led exploration with his sculptural objects in his Titirangi studio. Each work is homage to the varieties of mostly recycled or discarded wood available in New Zealand. His tactile devotion extends into his desire to create products that are both beautiful and functional, blending the organic with the domestic.

「ウォーク・イン・ザ・パーク」は、韓国からニュージーランドに移り住んだサム・チェーとジホ・ユン夫妻が手がける木工芸品。

サムはデザインと製作、ジホはフォトグラフィー担当、時にデザインにも加わります。彼らの生み出す作品は実用的でありながら、シンプルなフォルムの美しさに魅了されます。

エシカルな理念のもと、新しく切った木から作るのではなく、倒れた木の再利用するなど環境に配慮されています。

木材は、主にニュージーランドのオークランド周辺の地元の小さなサプライヤーから供給されており、さまざまなサイズの木材を使用するため、サイズや形状が異なることがあります。

木材は、湿度により少しずつ変化しますが、それが手作り木製品の美しさであり楽しみ方であると思います。

仕上げ製品はすべて天然のものであり安全です。純粋な食用オイル、蜜蝋、天然の漆を使用しています。
