Carmel Pollock's ceramic work

Inspired by transcendental ideas, she explores the delicate balance between control and randomness. Each piece is crafted using the Nerikomi process, which involves layering colored clay. The Nerikomi slabs are moulded and constructed into the final form.

Due to the many variables involved with the Nerikomi technique, the patterns turn out differently each time, adding an element of unpredictability. It makes every vessel one-of-a-kind and impossible to replicate exactly.

For this piece, the clay was likely a bit firmer, which helped create the tighter pattern and added texture in the final result.

* The clay is vitrified, so it has very low porosity and can hold water for a period of time,
However, because the pieces are unglazed, We wouldn’t consider them 100% watertight.
